Unsung Heroes - Serving with Humility

We have so many wonderful servants in our church family. Our Deaconesses exemplify those among us who humbly give of themselves, often behind the scenes. This group of close to 30 women carry out a wide range of tasks that minister to us and facilitate God's work in and through Ventura Missionary Church. They help with memorial services, baptisms and communion. They diligently pray for our church. And, they volunteer in a variety of roles throughout the scope of our VMC ministries. You will see members of the Deaconesses ushering and working in the cafe and bookstore on Sunday mornings, serving at the front desk in our church office during the week, and out in the community, serving meals to those in need. Recently, the Deaconesses were asked if they would be willing to clean out the cupboards in our Family Room kitchen. On Monday, July 9, a group of them jumped in with both, or rather, "fourteen" feet (and hands) and tackled the project. They were laughing and enjoying each other while working in the heat. The picture above shows just a small amount of the trash they cleaned out as they reorganized and got our kitchen in order. We are grateful for and applaud those in our church who model Christ's words, "The greatest among you shall be your servant." They are living out the apostle Paul's encouragement to value others above themselves in humility. Ladies, you're our heroes!
