Several years ago, Greg Campbell began to sense a stirring to disciple people. As a result, he responded to an opportunity to serve at the Little Red Schoolhouse at the Ventura County Fair. Child Evangelism Fellowship not only hosts this annual booth, it also hosts the Good News Clubs. As Greg interacted with the CEF leaders while serving at the Fair, he decided he should volunteer with the Good News Clubs as well - to begin to apply his own faith by sharing the gospel with children. Initially, he was a helper, but gradually he has taken on more responsibilities and now serves as a co-teacher.
When Greg talks about his experience with the Good News Clubs, he is obviously energized and passionate about serving Christ in this way. He says that it's so important to build into the next generation, that the Good News Clubs provide an avenue to share about Jesus with children who wouldn't otherwise have an opportunity to hear or study God's Word. To watch children accept the free gift of salvation through Christ is one of Greg's greatest joys as a volunteer.
One of the other components of serving in the Good News Clubs that Greg enjoys most is seeing kids grow in their faith. Good News Clubs not only teach kids about God, but how they can apply what they learn to their lives. There are even students who move on to other schools and come back to visit. They continue to share the Scripture they are reading with their former leaders and talk about how they can apply it. Greg says, "They grow and we grow." The time he spends to prepare to lead a lesson is an added blessing to teaching the kids. He is so glad that he stepped outside his comfort zone and was obedient to God's call on his heart to serve in this ministry.
Volunteers are still needed in our local Good News Clubs for the 2018/2019 schoolyear. There are a wide variety of roles. In addition to teaching, there are positions to provide snack, take attendance, help with memory verses and more. For more information, contact Jackie Kwasny.
