A small but mighty team recently went to Latvia to partner with our VMC missionaries, Juris and Kristines Bekeri-Brivkalni or the "Be-Be's." The Be-Be's have a heart for families who are struggling to remain intact and who are losing the essential connection that all families need. They have responded to God's call to help unite these families with Scriptural teaching and God's love through a family camp ministry. The property where these camps take place is in disrepair, so this year's short-term trip focused on providing practical assistance to rebuild a house, another step toward readying the location for full-service family camps. Next year we hope to send another team to not only help with any needed restoration projects, but also to help run a children's camp and a parenting camp.
The purpose behind short-term mission trips is three-fold. First, we want to share God's love and propel His Kingdom around the world. Second, we want to provide support to our missionaries who have committed their lives to serving God on a full-time basis according to His call. They are serving as Goers and we as Senders, a beautiful partnership to help fulfill the Great Commission. The third purpose is for the church body to partner as God leads through prayer, financial support and by physically participating. This year's Latvia team and Juris and Kristines are grateful for the support of the congregation to help make the 2017 trip a great success.
